We talked with upcoming influencers Jade Simpson and Yaz Lowe on the rise of social media influencers becoming the new form of advertising.

Influencer culture is constantly evolving with the rise of social media, opportunities for brands to collaborate with creators to promote and advertise products to their audience at a lower cost. 

JADE SIMPSON 

MEET THE INFLUENCER

Jade Simpson, upcoming content creator, has equated nearly 30k on Tik Tok alone and 500 Instagram followers through uploading fashion and lifestyle content to her viewers, over the past year. Simpson uses her unique style on Tik Tok and Instagram filming mainly try on hauls, styling videos and outfit inspiration.

SUCCESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA 

‘I wouldn’t say I have a large following yet but a small one,’ says Simpson, however, was given the opportunity to attend her first event with Oh Polly for the Ekin Su launch party. 

Micro influencers, are more trustworthy and reliable when it comes to posting brand deals and content, their audiences follow 'people who they absolutely love and want to be like' creating a connection between viewer and creator. Social media has enabled her to work with brands like ‘Superdry, Oh Polly, Bondi Sands, River Island, Lounge Underwear, Na-Kd, L’Oréal, and Estée Lauder’ filming content on Tik Tok showcasing the products she receives. Whilst she hopes to work with ‘Redken, White Fox, Motel Rocks, BohoMoon’ says Simpson. 

ADVICE FOR GETTING INTO CONTENT CREATION 

Social media is becoming more saturated with content creators. There is high demand from followers for creators to ‘constantly create new unique content’ stated Simpson, this is to sustain a following and be able to grow accounts further. Working in a creative industry comes with challenges, it can ‘get tough when views are low, or you spend all your time on something that doesn’t get the recognition’ says Simpson. 

However, it comes with endless opportunities, with social media having contributed to the marketing power influencers hold from their platforms and following sustained. Taking risks when posting and being consistent is the key to influencers success ‘it only takes one piece of content to completely change everything’ says Simpson. 

YAZ LOWE 

MEET THE INFLUENCER 

Yaz Lowe micro influencer and University student has gained over 3000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, since starting back in 2020 in lockdown. Posting mainly vlog style and fashion styling content to her viewers, taking inspiration mainly from following successful fashion and lifestyle influencers Lovevie and Olivia Grace Herring. Yaz stated ‘it would be amazing to be a bigger influencer and earn more money.’ 

SUCCESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA 

Social media has given Yaz the opportunity to work with the brands ‘Na-Kd fashion, Boots, John Frieda and Bondi Sands,’ posting TikTok’s However, hopes to one day work with Motel Rocks, ‘all the trips the brand does’ with their big influencer community. Yaz Says ‘she would meet loads of nice people, with similar interests to her.’ 

Yaz has used her social media platform to create her ‘freelance business, becoming a social media manager’ Says Lowe, producing content for London based salon, with one of her videos going viral ‘gaining 1.8 million views on the Instagram post’ Lowe stated. From her success in the role, Lowe want to go into it after university, ‘Social media has shaped my career’ says Lowe.

ADVICE FOR GETTING INTO CONTENT CREATION

Posting days in the life of her ‘busy days’ to Instagram and TikTok, Yaz felt she is ‘constantly expected to be doing something,’ from the unrealistic standards promoted online. Social media has made everyone think ‘‘you need to niche down your content’ stated Lowe. Experimenting with everything you enjoy, to see what works. You may face pressure along the way, buy being openminded when creating content, forms a unique community for your personal brand.  

 

The nano and micro creators are more engaged and down to earth with viewers, ‘Not like the Molly-Mae’s and the highly successful’ says Yaz. Putting more time and effort into creation, to gain recognition for their work. With content seeming more natural and on a personal level, Yaz stated it ‘feels like you’re talking to a friend,’ being relatable to followers.
